Video of Guatemala research available for viewing

Mari Cleven, a documentary filmmaker with Research, Discovery & Innovation at the University of Arizona, is working on several videos based on the work of a research team in Guatemala, featuring Kevin Anchukaitis and Talia Anderson of the LTRR. The first video is already released (and has received an award after a screening at The Loft, a local cinema); it is centered around a reconstruction of past climate in the western highlands of Guatemala, using tree ring data to extend the very limited records of rainfall and temperature several centuries into the past. This work is not simply of academic interest: the group collaborates with local farmers and foresters to plan for the future using the evidence of the past—a future that will include the effects of climate change.
