Without Agnese Haury's generous donation the Tree-Ring Lab would not have its new building. This was not a matter of the size or quality of the new construction, but of whether anything at all could be built. In addition, her gifts helped established faculty positions and research fellowships at the Lab. During her lifetime she was self-effacing, and after her death in March it has taken time to announce the details of her final donation to the University, so it is only now that we can properly acknowledge her support and direct attention to her remarkable life. Through the years her commitment to social justice, wide international experience, and varied interests led her to support many projects, and now her final gift will establish a program focused on environment, society and the Southwest at the University of Arizona.
