Workshop and Lab Safety

It is the responsibility of supervisors and PIs to ensure that all students and employees are fully trained to use tools and equipment in the workshop and lab.

Before anyone begins work they must fill out an LTRR orientation checklist and submit this to the business office.  This orientation checklist serves as a list of the rules and regulations governing use of the workshop (and other facilities in the lab) as well as a record of training.

The user must initial all the mandatory sections as well as all applicable sections for tools and equipment.  The form must be co-signed by an authorized trainer or faculty PI who is able to provide the one-to-one training necessary for the safe use of the equipment.  The current authorized workshop trainers as of November 2015 are:

It is important to note that users who have received the orientation training are not authorized to train other users. Training must only be given by faculty PIs or those listed above.

In addition to the one-to-one training, users must also watch the relevant safety videos.  Users who have previously been trained but have not used the equipment for some time should watch these videos as a refresher.  If you are unsure about any aspect of the safe use of the equipment you must consult one of the authorized trainers listed above.  The videos may be watched back-to-back by clicking the 'play all' button below, or may pick specific videos by using the 'playlist' button.
