Isabel González Méndez

I'm a PhD candidate interested in tropical climate dynamics across the past, present, and future. My research is mainly focused on Central America and the Caribbean, and I use tree-ring proxies (tree-ring width, oxygen isotopes, and radiocarbon) from Central America to understand the large-scale mechanisms—such as ENSO, changes in the Intertropical Convergence Zone, and meridional and zonal SST gradients—that shape rainfall variability across my regions of interest. I combine tree-ring proxy records with climate model simulations to provide mechanistic support for our interpretation of the tree-ring records, as well as observational climate data to better understand ocean–atmosphere processes. I also love poetry, writing, music, and finding different ways of movement :).
