Sophie Newsham
Visiting Scholar/Haury Fellow
Sophie is visiting the LTRR as part of her PhD research at the University of Canterbury. Her work focuses on dating large earthquakes along New Zealand’s Alpine Fault by examining growth anomalies in tree rings. Using newly collected data from South Westland, combined with existing datasets, Sophie is identifying widespread and synchronous growth suppressions or releases. The experience and expertise of the LTRR team are driving this exciting paleoseismic research forward — watch this space!
